Thanks!
Good morning,
And another season is in the rearview mirror. We were treated to some great weather, amazing games and having the turf fields instead of slopping around in the mud at the end of the season was a real treat!
Thank you to all the teams that participated in making 2011 one of the most succsessful yet. I think this year was one of the most balanced from a competitive balance standpoint and i look to improve on that again next year.
I hope you all have a great winter and wish you a healthy and safe off season.
All the best and thank you again for playing!
Regards,
Karl
Last note.... there is a glitch in the site that will not allow me to input the last week of stats... when that is fixed I will be posting my regular season awards for best performance.

Weekend Review
Semi Final Review:
Saturday Nov 12
Game 1: VPC Vs Turf Toe
It was a crisp morning and the 6(!) layers of clothing on VPC rusher Dan confirmed it. Turf Toe were missing some key starters notably QB Xavier and his Bro WR Guillaume, but they reached into their famous bag of QB's and had JF at the helm. He got out of the gates nicely with a long drive that was highlighted with a big 3rd down and 10 run from his 25, pepper in a few more completions and runs and he has his troops at the VPC 10. Credit to the VPC D and rusher Sharpeh as they hold to stop the drive, but wow, longest drive of the year going 11:23 seconds, but coming up empty.
Scoreless game into the 2nd quarter but tide starts to turn after a heads up punt return by VPC's our cousin Vinny, who took the punt over his shoulders Willie Mays style at mid-field and turned and raced down the right sideline to the Toe 20. Heads up play. VPC QB RR took little time getting his boys in the endzone as he hit Vinny on a slant left for the major. VPC gets the 2 pointer and it's 8-0.
Despite some nice runs and cannon throws by Toe QB JF, their O stalls and VPC gets the ball and starts to march on the 2 minute O. And march they do right to paydirt as RR hits WR Brent for the TD with 10 seconds left in the half. 14-0 VPC.
VPC takes the ball to start the 3Q and they also take full control of the game as they go on 7:30 drive and cap it off with the TD and 2 pointer and now lead 22-0. Toe O managed to march down to the VPC 3 late, but they were picked off by DB Brent and the game ended there, with VPC off to another final. Congrats.
Turf Toe 0 - VPC 22
Game 2: Love Cows Vs Tyrants
Tyrants get with the ball and QB Danny G takes what the D gives him and smartly marches his troops into scoring position and finds #1 Prime open in the endzone for the score. Coco chips in with the 1pt convert and Tyrants are up 7-0. Ensuing kickoff Tyrants K Danny G booms one out for the single. 8-0.
Cows O were slow out of the gate and put some pressure on the D as they went three and out and gave the ball up at their own 25. Tyrants take the 2 score lead a few plays later when Danny G finds Coco dor the score and then Dave gets the 1pt convert and Tyrants are up early 15-0.
Teams exchange stops, and then the Cows O finally gets in gear when on 3rd down from the Tyrants 30, QB Jon finds Kenton behind the secondary and Kenton makes a ridiculous one handed grab with coverage closing in. Impressive play by Kenton. 15-6 Tyrants at the half.
3Q sees Tyrants K Danny G again boot ones out for a single, and they lead 16-6. Tyrants D is playing good ball at the right time of the year and it shows as they get another stop. Danny "Golden Boot" G wastes no time in closing this game when he hits WR Prime for the major and insurmountable 23-6 lead. Congrats.
Tyrants 23 - Love Cows 6
Game 3: SOLIDE Vs Sweep the Leg
Rubber match for these semi heated rivals saw some hard-nosed D early by Sweep, allowing the O to benefit and take an early lead. Sweep maintained the lead and momentum, and closed it out for the win.
Sweep the Leg 32 - SOLIDE 12
Game 4: Hitmen Vs Legends of the Fall
Tough defensive battle for the 1st quarter as both teams exchange stops and can't get anything going. 2Q sees the Hitmen march to the midfield and QB Chris hit Mikey TC on a big time post play for the 50 yd score. Helluva a grab by TC as DB Crompton was all over him as he made the catch and he maintained his balance and ran it in. 6-0.
Legends march back and convert an improbable 3rd and 20 as QB Leon hit Crompton on a deep square in for the 25 yd gain to keep the drive alive and giving them a fresh set of downs at the Hitmen 20. Bigtime stop by the Hitmen D as rusher Mikey was taking no chances and sacked Leon twice in a row ending the drive. Hitmen tried to march 2 minute style but the half ended.
3q saw the Hitmen march to the redzone after completions to Cousin Johnny B and Jimmy, but Legends DB Kenton ended the drive after a nice int. He was playing the corner but dropped out of his coverage, crashed the middle and made the int, keeping his teams hopes alive.
Legends O cannot take advantage of that big play and they go 3 and out. Retro QB Chris is a savvy vet and you can't give him too many chances or he will make you pay, and pay the Legends did when he found Cousin Johnny for the TD and 14 -0 lead.
Leon and the Legends O showed some grit and pride as they marched down field on a nice mix of short slants, hooks and Leon runs, and then Leon hit snap Kennedy to get them close, and then found him again for the TD.
4th Q saw Legends DB Kenton get another INT giving his team a chance, but the O couldn't hold up their end of the bargain and the Retro D stopped them again. Credit to Retro QB Chris and his O, as they marched off the last 4 minutes of the game with some nice ball control O, closed out the win, and punched their ticket to the finals.

Sunday Nov 13 FINALS
Game 1: VPC Vs Turf Toe
Playing the 4 time champs is hard enough, but despite that challenge the Tyrants decide to spot VPC 2 early points when the snap is high over QB Danny and it is out for the safety. 2 -0 VPC.
VPC makes the Tyrants pay again for the safety, as they get the ball and two plays later VPC QB Robbie finds his buddy Sweet Lou Lou on a right corner and RR dropped it right in stride and Lou was off to the races for the 60 catch and run TD. Brent gets the 1 pt convert and VPC are up 9-0 early.
VPC D stand tall as DB RR makes an INT and gets the ball back for his troops near midfield. They march to the redzone but turn the ball over after the VPC WR falied to secure the pass and it was deflected to Tyrants DB Danny G. Big stop that kept the game from being an early blowout.
2Q starts with the Tyrants facing 3rd and 10 from their own 5yd line, they look set to punt, but QB Danny decides to by some time and roll our left before kicking, then sees Coco streaking in behind the VPC secondary, and decides to throw it long to him, and he throws a perfect strike as Coco runs under it full steam at midfield, and races to the sideline with only VPC DB Vinny to beat, and despite Vins best diving effort he races in for the wild 95 yd score. Prime gets the 2 pt convert and we have a game with the score 9-8.
VPC O march back to the Tyrant 30 and on 3 and 17 RR finds Vinny open and hits him for the TD. Giving up a TD is always tough, giving up one on 3 and 17.. a lot tougher. Brendan snares the 2pt convert and VPC are back in control with a 17-8 lead. Tyrants try and score before the half to close the gap, but VPC DB Grainger puts an end to the threat with an INT.
3Q sees VPC score again and get another 2 pointer to lead 25-8 and they held on from there and secured their 5th championship in as many years. Quite a feat of consistency and something they all should be very proud of.
VPC wins Division 2 Fall 2011
Game 2: Hitmen Vs Sweep the Leg
Sweep get on the board first when they march to the red zone and WR Rico runs a slant and go and catches the TD. Retro strike back when Carm finds his receiver at the back of the end zone for the major. Accurate throw off his back foot while under pressure from Sweep rusher. Key play just before half as Sweep WR AA found himself in behind coverage down the left sidelines and scored the TD.
2nd half saw a big play by Sweep WR Denis Bubbs as he scored on a corner post on 3rd and 10 from the Retro 20. Big defensive play by Retro DB Chris as he made an athletic diving grab for an INT giving his team a chance. They took advantage as Carm marched them down and scored closing the gap to one score. Sweep O marched and scored when Rico caught his 2nd TD of the day, to extend the lead and seal the game.
Sweep the Leg wins Division 1 Fall 2011
